Poker Chips - Colours and Values – Standard Colours that you will find in your poker chipset
In the game of poker there is no official rulebook, however there are many conventions or unwritten rules that are constant across many of the official games and tournaments around the world. This is true of the colours and values of poker chips. While there is no official documentation on the standards of poker chips there is a definite consistency which has been built up over the years with regards to the standard colours that poker chips should be when they are a certain value. This is in order to minimize the chances of players making mistakes when they bet their poker chips. If they always play with poker chips of the same colour for certain denominations then it becomes very easy to recognise which value chips you are betting with and also for poker players to assess other players stacks of poker chips in order to estimate their total holdings.
These are generally taken to be the standard colour and denomination combinations for poker chips:
White poker chips: Usually represents $1
Yellow poker chips: $2
Red poker chips: $5
Blue poker chips: $10
Grey poker chips: $20
Green poker chips: $25
Orange poker chips: $50
Black poker chips: $100
Pink poker chips: $250
Purple poker chips: $500
Burgundy poker chips: $1000
Light Blue poker chips: $2000
Brown poker chips: $5000
There are of course some variations to these colours and depending on the casino that you are in or the poker chips that you are using there may be one of two colours that are different. Variations such as these are usually slight – for example a black chip may become a blue chip or a grey chip a white chip. So please check the denominations in the poker chipset that you are using and always make your bets carefully when at the poker table. All of the poker chipsets that we sell at Freetime Direct stick more or less to these standard colours and numbers which makes them ideal for home and tournament use.
Also available are poker chips of higher value than those listed above. These are often different colours and are sometimes seen as rectangular tokens rather than the usual disc shaped poker chips (you will sometimes see these at some of the high stakes poker games televised). Sometimes these are finished in a pearl style, they are rarely used for single poker table tournaments or in normal stakes cash games of tournaments.
