How Many Poker Chips Do I need in my Poker Chipset?
So you are looking to purchase a poker chipset for use in your poker home game, poker league or poker tournament? It is important that you look for a poker chipset which fulfils all of your poker chips requirements. You will need to buy a chipset that gives you the best number of poker chips, and also to some extent the best breakdown of poker chip denominations (although the breakdown will depend on the type of game that you are playing).
Number of Poker Chips Per Player
Ideally you would like every player at the poker table to have a good stack of poker chips in front of them when they first sit down. This creates a much better impression than having just a very small number of chips per player. As well as just “feeling” better to have a large stack of chips it also allows much more flexibility in the was that each player uses his or her poker chips – meaning that they can make small or large bets, and all the sizes in between. If you do not have a decent number of chips per player then you may end up in the situation whereby players are forced to make different bets to that which they actually want to make because they do not have the right change or because they only have poker chips of a certain denomination in front of them. We recommend an absolute minimum of 50 chips per player if you want to be able to play poker properly. This is especially true if the games you play use a tournament style structure. At Freetime Direct we prefer to start everyone off with 100 poker chips. This give the game the potential to allow players to really use their poker chips in an effective way and to use betting as part of their strategy – rather than just betting according to the cards in their hands.
Therefore we recommend that for a game of 4 – 8 players you would need one of our 500 piece poker chip sets. While a game of 7 – 10 players would ideally require one of our 1000 piece poker chip sets.
Breakdown of Poker Chips in your Poker Chipset
This is where things can get a little but tricky. This is because the number of poker chips that you require of each denomination, and the way that you distribute your poker chips at the start of the game, will depend to a large extent on the type of game that you are playing. For example if you are playing a cash game then you probably need low denomination chips with values that are quite close together – 1, 5, 10, 25 etc. This is because the blinds never increase so there is no real requirement for the higher denomination poker chips. However if you are playing a tournament then it is likely that as the blinds increase so will the total amounts being bet – which means that you need poker chips of larger values to allow for this, All of our poker chip sets are designed to give the best possible and most flexible combination of chips to suit the majority of home games and poker league style tournaments.
Generally speaking you will need more of the larger value poker chips and less of the smaller value poker chips. Many sites will advocate a 4 colour/value set where the quantity ratio is 4/3/2/1 from smallest to largest. We understand though that the quantities in the poker chipsets can affect what this ration should be. So if you have a set with 1, 5, 10 and 25 denominations then a 4/3/2/1 breakdown could be applicable. However in a set that has 1, 5, 25 and 100 you will actually need fewer “100” poker chips than the 4/3/2/1 ratio suggests. As we understand poker tournaments na dare in constant conversation with those in the poker industry we have been able to custom create our own poker chipsets and poker chips combinations and ratios in order to make them as useful and as flexible as possible for your home game.
